The Mt. Vernon Airport was full of excited kids awaiting their FREE airplane rides with pilots, Keith Baumann and Bill Taylor, this morning. Young Eagles is a program created by the US Experimental Aircraft Association designed to give children between the ages of 8 to 17 an opportunity to experience flight while being educated about aviation. Keith has volunteered his time to fly a total of 538 children before today. Bill has also volunteered …
The Richland County “Shop with a Hometown Hero” taco night is a cause worth celebrating. The Hometown Hero program provides a little extra holiday cheer to those in need. At risk children are identified by schools, churches, youth organizations, and social service agencies. Through this program, positive relationships are fostered, needs are met, and cheer is restored. Thank you to all who participate in making this program a success.
There is something about the way people come together to see an event take place that ignites the fire of community spirit. The members of the Fraternal Order of Police were busy serving up hot pancakes and sausage first thing this morning. The Cross Street Station celebrated completion with a ribbon-cutting. The Evening at the Farm with Darren and Cindy Bailey was a welcome opportunity to support Darren’s run for State Senate. It was our pleasure visiting the 8th annual Mount Vernon Fall Festival today. The theme for this event was, “Growth, Progress and Pride” focusing on the fact that 2019 is the city and county’s 200th birthday. We enjoyed sharing in the history and growth of Mount Vernon and Jefferson County this afternoon. Thank you for having us. Happy birthday!
